Too hot and humid to seek for reflections in the fountains and ponds. Instead, I decided to use the reflection on the living room floor. The Tokyo Museum of Western Art features a beautiful outside display of Rodin bronzes including “The Thinker”. I often walk by and each time I am wondering what he might be reflecting on. Is it Atlas reflecting on the day spent on futile efforts to complete his task? Physically it is quite difficult to emulate the posture; I think Rodin optimized on the physical abilities of his model. What am I reflecting on? The futile belief that the world will one day become a better one? Now my body is old but when it was younger, I was more confident about a future with respect for the environment and no new war. For me photography is still essentially documentary. I am struggling being creative and artistic. On 52F over the last half year I got better in framing the challenge in my mind, brainstorm and seek opportunity around me. I have been able to submit some shots already quite different from my standard traveler’s portfolio. Also I don’t really like to involve photo editing much. Still l was about to design something with PS and was looking for a colorful background. Voilà, the forgotten neckties from previous live in the brand business at Bvlgari became not only the background but the full picture. How rewarding to see this salad when remembering how stupid it was to wear them around the neck for so many years! David Bowie: Black Tie White Noise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuhA6EPpBVo
I can see all stages of the Lotus on the pond in front of my place. Large leaves start growing in late May and by July it has totally covered the surface of the water. Buds develop and within 2-3 days they open early in the morning. Beautiful, naturally opulent, luxurious they look like made of Marzipan but falter within two days. Then begins an interesting metamorphose into the rather bizarre looking seed pod eventually that drops back into the water. Finally, the leaves die up and the dry stumps are cut and removed in winter. Difficult to get close by so I used 200mm and 1.6 crop factor. I found two overlapping flowers, one open and one still closed. Next day I tried to get close to challenge the 16mm but instead tripped, fell, and injured my knee. The better is the enemy of the good!
