People after the tsunami

As a photographer I am very hesitant to take pictures of people that I don’t know. Perhaps that is why I am not very good at it and keep on taking aim at nature and man made objects.

Still I had the opportunity to meet with extraordinary people during my trip to Ishinomaki at the beginning of April 2011.

I want share my impressions of the moments I was allowed to share in life of people in the north east of Japan, shortly after the tsunami.

    Here and there some self defense solders were engaged in the clearing up.
    The urns with the remains of the daughter and grandmother, are in the temporary housing of their family. The body  grandfather had not been found yet.
    This family lost their first daughter who was home on vacation from university. She died along with her  grandmother and the grandfather in the tsunami. The younger daughter gave me the V sign. Again Peace or Victory? In any case I can only with them Peace with their fate and the strength to go on into the future.
